Workshop cancelled
Unfortunately, we had to cancel the SGA workshop for this year. We had an unexpected small number of abstract contributions, which did not warrant a three and a half days workshop. There will instead be a seminar during that week with those contributors that are interested.
We will investigate if we make another attempt for a 6th SGA in two years. Next year in September there will be the Workshop on High-Dimensional Approximation (HDA) in Bonn.
Sparse Grids and Applications Seminar
The timetable of the seminar in September, including additional information.Welcome
Sparse grids were introduced under that name more than 30 years ago at the Sixth GAMM-Seminar in Kiel. This year the 6th workshop on Sparse Grids and Applications will return to Bonn during September 2024. It continues the workshop series on Sparse Grids and Applications: 2011 in Bonn, Germany, 2012 and 2018 in Munich, Germany, 2014 in Stuttgart, Germany, and 2016 in Miami, USA,
Sparse grids have gained increasing interest in recent years for the numerical treatment of high-dimensional problems. Where classical numerical discretization schemes fail in more than three or four dimensions, sparse grids allow to overcome the curse of dimensionality to some extent - extending the number of dimensions that can be dealt with.
The aim is to bring together researchers and practitioners using sparse grids and their variants. Both theoretical and practical aspects are highly welcome. Topics of sparse grids and their applications include
- interpolation and approximation
- complexities and error bounds
- higher-order methods
- numerical quadrature
- spatially/dimensionally adaptive refinement
- wavelets
- applications using sparse grids
- computational finance
- density estimation
- dimensionality reduction
- integral equations
- machine learning (classification, regression, clustering, ...)
- parameter scans
- (stochastic) partial differential equations
- sparse grid software
- data structures
- efficient numerical implementations
but are not limited to them.

Hotels
For hotel information and reservation please use the following links of the Bonn tourism agency.
Transportation
- By plane to Flughafen Köln Bonn. Take Bus SB60 to Bonn Hauptbahnhof (runs about every 30 minutes, 35-minute ride).
- By plane to Flughafen Düsseldorf. Take the train from Flughafen Düsseldorf to Bonn Hauptbahnhof.
- By plane to Flughafen Frankfurt. Take the train from Flughafen Frankfurt to Bonn Hauptbahnhof. Either as a (highly recommended) scenic train ride along the river Rhein or with a somewhat faster connection over Siegburg/Bonn. The train ticket may be included in or booked with your long-distance airfare.
