We consider the solution of partial differential equations discretized by finite differences. We consider varying coefficient and anisotropic operators and a variety of strategies for the convection-diffusion equation and the biharmonic equation. In the introductory report only the Laplacian was treated. We also discuss different multigrid restriction and prolongation operators arising in some special multigrid versions. The first steps are guided by a couple of examples.} }
