Lecture SS 26 Advanced Topics in Numerical Methods in Science and Technology
Efficient Treatment of Nonlocal Operators
Nonlocal operators are difficult to deal with computationally as their discretization leads to dense system matrices whose numerical treatment has quadratic complexity at best. Using theory from pseudodifferential operators and fast kernel methods we will discuss various methods how this complexity can be lowered to (almost) linear complexity.
Specific preliminary knowledge from other courses is not required, but a solid foundation in the mathematical topics covered in most bachelor lectures on analysis and numerical analysis is expected.
