We develop and analyze numerical methods for the solution of nonlinear partial differential equations appearing in continuum mechanics, image and surface processing, computer vision. We are concerned with the mathematical modeling, error analysis, a posteriori error control, efficient multilevel algorithms, and numerical software design. Special emphasis is on diffusion and transport problems. Visualization, computer graphics, the corresponding multiresolutional methodology, and the modeling via partial differential equations further characterize our research focus.
